COVID-19 Research & External Resources

A number of external entities (see below) are making advanced computing and data resources available at no cost to support research related to COVID-19. The YCRC stands ready to help Yale’s COVID-19 researchers to take advantage of these external resources, as well as of our own internal HPC resources:

  1. We have added special high-priority partitions on our clusters for YCRC cluster users to run jobs related to COVID-19 research.

  2. We will work with Yale researchers to facilitate their applications to the COVID-19 HPC Consortium and the other programs listed below. If you would like to apply to any of these programs, please let us know so that we can help you put together the strongest possible application.

  3. We will work with Yale researchers to maximize the value of their awards to their COVID-19 research. For those of you who have already received awards under these programs, please let us know, so that our research support team can help you. Several YCRC staff members are “Campus Champions” with experience in facilitating access to national facilities, and we can assist both in taking advantage of the large cluster or cloud resources and in transferring data between Yale and the remote facilities that you will be using.

Please contact us at research.computing@yale.edu. We look forward to assisting you in any way possible.

COVID-19 HPC Consortium

The COVID-19 High Performance Computing (HPC) Consortium is a unique private-public effort spearheaded by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the U.S. Department of Energy and IBM to bring together federal government, industry, and academic leaders who are volunteering free compute time and resources on their world-class machines.

To review the active projects and/or submit a proposal, see: https://covid19-hpc-consortium.org/

Google Cloud

Google Cloud has developed a number of programs and resources dedicated to organizations tackling challenges associated with COVID-19.

Partnership with Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI)

Google Cloud has partnered with the Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) to accelerate important research to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers investigating the novel coronavirus across academia, healthcare and government organizations as well as public companies and nonprofits can apply for funding from the pool of Google Cloud research credits.

For more information about program details and eligibility, please learn more and feel free to share these details with your contacts. For any additional questions, please contact gcpresearchcredits@google.com.

Partnership with Johns Hopkins University

Google Cloud is making a copy of the widely referenced Johns Hopkins University CSSE COVID-19 data available as a public dataset in BigQuery.

You can access the dataset on Cloud Marketplace, along with a description of the data and sample queries to get your analysis started.

This John Hopkins University CSSE dataset is made available for educational and academic research purposes only. Google Cloud will not charge for bytes read from this dataset during the duration of the offer (but other charges may apply if you join with other datasets). See documentation in the Marketplace listing for this dataset for more details.
